New Location for SLAC Screenings!

Summer is officially over and fall is upon us. The Summer anime season is also coming to an end and that means some of our favorite series will be going away. The new fall season hasn’t fully started yet, so we will have a special screening this week of 2 new movie releases.

Our next screening will be Saturday, October 1st, from Noon till 5PM. We will be screening the English Dubs of “Trigun: Badlands Rumble” and “The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya”. With this special screening comes a new location for the SLAC to meet up. We will be splitting our 2 monthly screenings between the Westwego Library and the West Bank Regional Libray. The meeting room at the WBR is amazing! The room is huge! It also has a sound system and a great video system along with couple of computers.

If you don’t know where the West Bank Regional Libray is, here is a map you can use.

The West Bank Regional Library has a Teen Center that includes the following: A large collection of Teen fiction, magazines, CDs, graphic novels and audiobooks; Two Internet accessible PC computers available for teen use only; and Displays (monthly) of books and authors of interest to teens.

Tropical Storm Lee

Due to the forecasted weather problems associated with TS Lee, we will NOT be at the Westwego Library 9/3/2011. Our next scheduled screening at the Westwego Library will be on 9/17/2011. Please be safe this holiday weekend and keep an eye on the weather!

The Spring 2011 Anime Season is coming to a close. Most shows have about 3 more weeks until the Summer Season starts! Lets hope some of our favorites will have a second season!

Voice Actor Workshop – Reserve, LA

I was asked to pass this along to everyone. They are still working out the final details, but I will keep everyone posted as I receive more information on this event. If you are an aspiring voice talent, this is a great opportunity to receive some training from some talented actors.

On April 9, 2011, Todd Haberkorn and Kent Williams will be presenting a full day voice acting and creative drama workshop at St. John Theatre in Reserve. After speaking with Kent and Todd they promise a fun filled, action packed day of intense dramatics, combat, and an actual dubbing live!

The cost for the day will be $45.00 and information will be forthcoming in order to register on our theatre website stjohntheatre.com. Payment online will be via paypal and also accepted at the door.

More information to follow so feel free to PM me here on the forum as we are working out which programs they will be utilizing. Popular requests are vocal production (preservation and correct use of your voice), vocal dialects, stage scene work and broadcast media.

The theatre has a full concession and we ask that you bring a packed lunch if you do not wish to leave the property however there are local eateries nearby.

If you have any questions about the workshop, I will do what I can to try to get them answered for you.

After some unfortunate technical difficulties cut our last screening short, I am happy report that the problem has been resolved and the rogue video cable has been cut and thrown away! I now have 3 working (and tested) VGA cables, which will hopefully keep the same thing from happening in the future. With all of that said, we will be back at the Westwego library this Saturday to make another attempt at watching some anime. I’m hoping to have something special for y’all, but I don’t want to spoil it in case I can’t make it work. I will also try to get back in the habit of updating the news on this site more often and updating our fliers as they need to change.

Greetings everyone and Happy New Year!

We have our dates set through March of this year, so I should be posting all of those dates very soon. We do have a screening set for this Saturday. We will start at noon, but because of the Saints playoff game, we will be wrapping up at 3:00PM instead of 5:00PM. Our next screening will be on January 22nd, and it should be a full length screening until 5PM.

It’s been a while since our last screening, but that all changes this Saturday. It will, however, be a short screening. We will be at the Westwego Library from Noon until 2:00PM! Next Saturday, December 18th, we will get together for the final screening of the year. We will be back to our normal time slot then. We hope to see everyone this Saturday!

You may notice that the website isn’t working quite right… Well, I’m in the process of moving to a new server; so I’m having to reactivate everything little by little. Hopefully this won’t take very long to get straightened out. Oh well; back to fixing the site.
